Janet Hartman, former software developer and liveaboard sailor, writes nonfiction articles and essays about interesting places and unique people. Now a landlubber and kayaker in North Carolina, she also writes creative nonfiction on a variety of topics, flash fiction, and essays on the writing life.  She was the 2010 guest columnist for the Long Ridge Writers' Group newsletter.

Janet's "Cairn Mind Meld" story is in Chicken Soup for the Soul: My Dog's Life which was released April 12. She has copies for sale with half of her proceeds going to local animal shelters. Janet's short memoir "School Days" appears in the Silver Boomer Books' anthology, From the Porch Swing: Memories of Our Grandparents, released July 2010. Her essay on Richard "Big Boy" Henry is in the Novello Festival Press anthology "Making Notes: Music of the Carolinas". Janet is a member of N.C. Writers' Network and the immediate past president of Carteret Writers. She wrote a weekly column called Potpourri for the Long Ridge Writers Group as the 2010 guest columnist for their newsletter.
